THE PeoPle
In a country scarcely larger than France, tribes which have preserved their mystery and their rites cohabit as they have done from time immemorial. The West that encapsulates the full flavour of the African continent offers you an invitation to visit it.
Cameroon is a true cross-roads for the major African peoples. Its frontiers enclose no fewer than two hundred ethnic groups, each speaking its own language and maintaining its own customs and traditional beliefs. These include Pygmies, Sudanese, Bantu and Semi-bantu tribes. The diversity of these features constitutes the unity of the country.
Cameroon explodes in a bouquet of colours. During the fantasia celebrations which take place in the North of the country, Warriors clothed in chain mail and helmets ride in clouds of dust on richly caparisoned mounts.
At Oudjilla, you can take part in the wild dances of the women celebrating the harvest.
In the Kapsiki region, ask the crab sorcerer to read you your fortune.
In the South, in the equatorial forest, live the Pygmy choirs who will dance their Buma dance for you.
In the West, the grand festivals of the chieftainries of the Bamileke people offer colourful festivities, with their hats studded with red plumes and their masks with multicoloured beads.
Whether they are in wood, beads or animal skins, masks perpetuate over all the country shapes and ideas that have come down from the dawn of time.
